｢知床クジラの会」--北海道の東部、世界遺産・知床の羅臼町に拠点をおく、非営利の民間任意グループです。
目的--知床・根室海峡の海の豊饒と魅力を、イルカ・クジラという野生動物を通じ、地域住民と訪れる人々に親しみ、いつくしみ、知的好奇心を刺激したり、地域観光の振興の一助となることを目的に活動しています。

野生のイルカ・クジラは、陸地から手軽に発見・観察できることがあります。見晴らしのよいところで、視界の良いときに試みるのが望ましいでしょう。
時期ごとに、出現の期待の高そうなイルカ・クジラや海鳥について、事前にすこし情報を得るとよいでしょう(地域の自然センターや当サイト、自然ガイドなどから適宜最新のアドバイスを)。すくなくとも30分、できれば1時間、発見・観察のための時間を用意してください。使いやすい(使い慣れた)双眼鏡があれば、ぜひ携帯をおすすめします。

羅臼町では、「クジラの見える丘公園」の展望デッキをぜひ訪れてみてください!
視野200度ほどあります。標高およそ80ｍの臨海崖の上です。トイレはありません。クルマで付近まで上がることができます。ただし冬季は、車道の除雪が行われませんので利用困難です。

A Guide to the Site

The observation deck is nearby the rausu light house, located on the cliff of "Zaimoku-iwa tunnel", along the local rout 87, town of Rausu, eastern Hokkaido, Japan.　It'll take only some 6 minutes drive from "Michi-no-eki", the Road Depot at central town of Rausu. It's accessible either by drive or foot.
Too snowy and frozen to get by car during winter months--December through March.
No public toilet available up the hill.

Here, you'll see more than 200-degree over-looking view of the northern Nemuro Strait.
Seasonally, it's available to spot and watch; Dall's porpoise, minke whale, sperm whale, Baird's beaked whale, Pacific white-sided dolphin, harbor porpoise, orca (killer whale), as well as Mesoplodon sp.
Before you go, recommend to visit the local nature centres, nature guides, or town toursm information center for the current fresh information and cautions to the visitors.

雪の季節は、こんなかんじです。道路の除雪が行われていないので、残念ながら冬季は使用できません。 2010年3月に、デッキエントランスの右側面に、大きな看板が設置されました。釧根開発さん、松谷建設さん、荒井建設さん3社共同による地域貢献として、知床クジラの会に寄贈していただいたものです。看板の写真は、羅臼町在住の写真家・石井輝章（いしい・てるあき）さんの作品を提供いただきました。 The road is covered with snow during winter time, so it will not be accessible for the public. The big signboard of tail flukes of sperm whale was donated by the local three construction companies.　(The image on the signboard by: Teruaki ISHII ).


羅臼町中心部から、道道87号線を相泊方面へ。「ざいもく岩トンネル」を抜け、直後に、右手に上のとおり案内看板があります。 From the central town of Rausu, follow the rout 87. There's a signboard (above) on your right side, soon after you passed through the first tunnel.

道道87号線・相泊方面から羅臼町中心に向かう場合、「ざいもく岩トンネル」の手前・進行方向左手に案内看板あり。 Enrout No.87 for central town of Rausu, you'll see the signboard (above) on your left side, before reaching to the Zaimokuiwa tunnel.
